Intermediate Mechanical Designer

We are seeking an individual with a solid background in mechanical and structural design of a variety of heavy-duty equipment for the aggregate and mining industry. Successful applicants must have a clear knowledge of bulk material handling equipment including conveyors (portable and stationary), stackers (telescopic and cable mast), hoppers, belt feeders, crushers and screening plants.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop and implement design solutions based on customer requirements and/or specifications in a 2D and 3D environment. 
  • Develop design solutions and evaluate based on expected performance, manufacturability, assembly and serviceability.
  • Liaise with our in-house manufacturing team, engineering team, sales, suppliers, sub-contractors and customers.
  • Design and detail mechanical components, weldments, and assemblies.
  • Effectively communicate designs through excellent drafting layouts.
  • Manage drawing packages and project documentation.
  • Champion Engineering Change Order initiatives.
  • Carry out technical investigations and engineering support activities to support design validations.

Requirements:

  • Highly motivated, organized, results oriented, critical thinker, problem solver, decision-maker, strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team oriented environment.
  • Ability to read customer engineering drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical design theory such as statics, dynamics, DFMA, stresses, tolerances and fits, shaft design, power transmission component selection, machine frames, bolted connections and welded joints.
  • Knowledge of CEMA conveyor and industry related standards
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment that involves processes such as machining, cutting, shearing, plate forming, welding, fitting, painting, assembly and testing.
  • Excellent English communication skills, oral and written.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, minimum 3 years’ experience
  • MUST be proficient in SolidWorks 2012 and up, minimum 4-5 years
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Design
  • MUST have  5-7 years Canadian experience in field related materials handling/heavy duty equipment.
  • PEO is desirable

Procurement specialist

Reports To:

  • Procurement Manager, with dotted line to VP of Operations.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the purchase and control of all parts and materials required in the manufacturing process. 
  • Manage inventory levels in conjunction with master production scheduling.
  • Implement and maintain reporting of inventory, supply quality improvement and cost reduction.
  • Anticipate and react according to market changes affecting parts and materials prices.
  • Execute process improvements and maintain purchasing documentation.
  • Develop and foster effective working relationships with suppliers, internal team members and customers.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing, establish terms and conditions and manage purchase contracts.
  • Complete and manage international paper work related to inbound/outbound shipments.
  • Maintain accurate BOM's (Bill of Materials) for job/project costing purposes.
  • Create and maintain “Thor Part numbering system".
  • Match inbound Packing slips/BOL’s with Po’s.
  • Manage logistics for shipping of international outbound parts orders.

Qualifications:

  • Procurement experience, preferably in industrial construction, mining or aggregate industry.
  • Post secondary diploma in a related field (CPP, CPIM, SCMP, APICS, PMAC) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in Purchasing and Inventory control with negotiation experience.
  • Sound knowledge of manufacturing processes, preferably conveyor systems, bulk material handling systems or mining equipment.
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of business software applications, computerized purchasing system. Preferred knowledge of ERP- Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015
  • Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures, including a solid understanding of inventory control techniques.
  • Well-developed skills in organizing and planning, and consistently demonstrated initiative, teamwork and customer responsiveness.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and research skills, while working within stringent timelines.
  • Accountable for supplier evaluations and identify cost saving opportunities.
